Social Media Marketing PDF Print E-mail

How do you reach you current customers? How do you plan to reach new potential customers? Are you using any of the major social media outlets that are available on line? If not, then the big question is, why not?

If you are not using social media sites to connect with customers and for marketing to potential customers, then you are likely falling behind. Many businesses and ministries fail to utilize these powerful people based media to help grow their business or stay connected with their current customers. In fact, I am continually surprised at just how many businesses don't use the Internet at all or at least not to the best that they could. If you are relying only on traditional media to promote your business, then you may be missing out on a huge chunk of the potential business pie.

Churches and other ministries are also an area that I see falling behind in this regard. For a group as a whole, ministries are about connecting and building relationships with people, yet few ministries utilize the Internet for more than a one-way communication device. Just giving out the worship service times and a list of the things your church or ministry offers is falling short of the possibilities. The Internet these days is all about relational interaction. People meeting people is where the growth is and that growth is phenomenal.

I keep hearing the reasoning for not having an active web presence, that my clients or congregation is not using that stuff. It is for the young people, not the adults. Well, that may have been true at one time but it is no longer the case. Consider these statistics from Facebook, one of the top online social sites around:

  • Facebook has over 300 Million active users and half of them log on in any given day.
  • The fastest growing membership group is for those who are 35 years old and older.
  • More than 8 billion minutes are spent on Facebook each day (worldwide).

Do you still think that only young people are using this media to connect? Go back to the first paragraph of this post and read it again. What do you think your answer should be, now?
