I have noticed a trend in websites for churches these days. Well, actually a few trends. The biggest issue I see with churches and their web presence is that there really isn't one.
Many times churches' sites are nice, but the content on them is so outdated, that they are no longer relevant. If your visitors see an outdated site, they will be likely to think the same thing about your church. Updating a website has been a pretty challenging task in the past, but that is no longer as much of an issue.
Content Management Systems (CMS)
There are many different content management systems out there now that allow you to take the difficulty out of updating your website. I have seen an increase of companies that will set up a site with their own brand of CMS and they charge a monthly fee to keep the site live.
This is great for some churches. It eliminates the hassle of making sure the site stays online, but they all seem to have too many restrictions or limitations to me. That is where I want to help.
Joomla and Your Church
The best CMS package I have found out there right now is one called Joomla. It is an open source script which means that it is free to use and supported by a community of users who are constantly adding functions and stability to it's core. Joomla can handle almost any size website you can imagine and it is easy to maintain and update. Best of all, it allows you to maintain control over your own web site.
I have recently added several themes to allow for an easy transition to a Joomla site for churches. You can see a sample of one at: http://lhstudio.com/j15demo/.
This site is not fully functional, but it can give you an idea of what can be done. If you would like to play around with the script and see how easy it is to use, email me and I will set up a demo user account for you.
